I have owned a MYFI XM2GO unit for over 3 years now. It's versatility allows me to listen to it at home or in the car with great reception. These older units broadcast a "heavier" f.m. frequency (for your auto radio) than the more modern units, so the clarity is pretty awesome. It will store up to 6 hours of recorded music, so you can listen to a pre-recorded show if you cannot place a south-facing antenna wherever you happen to be. You can also program your favorite artist or song, and the unit will signal you when that configuration is playing on any xm channel, giving you the option to tune in. This unit is pretty indestructible, or klutz proof; I have dropped it onto hard surfaces without damaging it. The weakest link is the car antenna; I suggest reinforcing the wire with electrical tape, or you may soon find yourself having to replace it. I opted to replace my lost unit with an identical one, rather than the newer units; I highly recommend the MYFI XM2GO!

I have owned one of these for five years now and love it. I use it at home, on the road and when travelling. It even works as far south as southern Mexico and perhaps beyond. Proper antenna pointing at home and car installation are important and of course a view of the southern sky if outside urban areas with local transmitters. The range of stations is perfect - all the news channels, tons of music choices and the sports choice is almost universal - MLB, NBA, NHL, College and even the NFL if you spring for the "Best of Sirus" option. If you travel and want to stay in the loop it is the best option.

Anyone who knows me knows I love my XM Radio. Now that XM has joined with Sirius, there is even more to enjoy. If you are in the market to buy a radio, There are some things you should know about this particular radio before you purchase it.

The Delphi MiFi XM2Go tries to pass itself as a satellite radio for any situation. This is true, but it is good at some tasks and only barely passable for others. The "portability" of this unit is pretty limited. The small antenna included that clips to your clothing is virtually useless. I thought it might be perfect for laying in the hammock, but the integrated antenna is better suited than the "portable" antenna. You certainly can't use it jogging or on a bus, train or plane, unless you have recorded programming previously...and even then, the life of the battery in playback mode isn't great.

If most of your time listening to XM will be in the car, this is not the unit for you. The docking cradle for the unit isn't very stable. The Delphi radio itself is heavier than most satellite radios, but the dock for it is just cheap plastic. The FM transmitter signal volume is very low, making "CD quality" music sound pretty muddy at times. If you are fortunate enough to have an external input on your car stereo, I would recommend you use that. Otherwise, you will likely be disappointed. The font and lack of an adequate backlight also make the screen very difficult to read when driving. Its extremely clumsy control (a thumbwheel on the side) makes it difficult to change channels unless all you want is a preset channel.

So far its not sounding too good, but there are functions this radio serves quite well. If you want to use your XM radio at home or at the office, its perfect. I have the cradle and external antenna at work wired into the external input my iPod speaker dock and I purchased the Altec-Lansing XM3020 for docking and use at home. The sound quality is quite good and the dedicated home antenna is very good at recieving a consistent signal, even in nasty weather.

The large display does have some advantages. There is a scroll at the bottom of the display screen that can be programmed to track stocks in real time as well as sports scores. Its much easier to read the display sitting in front of you on a desk that it is sitting in the drivers seat on the interstate.

The recording function is also a huge plus. Its the one part of the radio that really exceeds expectations. Most of the reviews state it will record up to 5 hours of programming. I know for a fact that mine is currently holding about 8 hours of recorded shows. Most of these shows are talk oriented and may be delivered in mono, thus requiring less space to record. You can program the Delphi to record a program coming up in the next 24 hours or one that airs everyday at the same time. I wish you could program to only record on certain days of the week, but I don't think the radio knows what day it is. There are limitations here. You can record something you are listening to, or you can set it to record automatically while the unit is turned off and docked. It can't record something while you are listening to something else.

Given its limitations, I think I have squeezed all that is humanly possible out of this radio. It could certainly use a second generation version that would iron out some of the flaws, especially the ease of use while driving and the underwhelming FM signal. Also, Delphi should re-evaluate selling point of "portability" entirely unless a more effective body antenna can be produced. Its portable in that it can be taken from place to place, but its certainly not a "WalkMan." If you plan to listen to XM in a variety of settings, its a decent option...but certainly not a perfect one.

I bought my first unit 4 years ago and used it heavily. The only part that fell apart was the bottom of the unit where you dock it to charge at home or in the car. So I bought a replacement unit and hope I will not have the same problem. There is the occasional signal fade in and out, depending where you're at. The battery needs to be changed every year of so depending on use. But overall I highly recommend this unit if you love commercial free and different types of music as I do at home, in the car or at the gym.

This is my second unit since my first one purchased 5 years ago gave up the ghost, most likely due to overuse and my own carelessness. I searched and found a quality replacement and it is up and running smoothly and effectively. I wish Delphi hadn't discontinued them. The unit is not effective on your person, mimicking an Ipod. The antenna doesn't work well in this environment, but as a portable home and car unit, it's great.

I bought this receiver one year ago @ Circuit City. It was one of those "we found this sitting around in the stockroom, and it needs to be sold" deals. For $50 I got the receiver, home kit, and car kit.

In the year I have had this unit, it has worked well for me. It's been on as long as approx. 4 hours, and I haven't had issues with problems due to overheating. The unit sure does get hot, however!

I especially like the large display this unit has; makes it easy to glance over and see what's playing, without having to take my eyes off the road.

Sure, this isn't being made anymore, but if you can get a deal like I did, I would say go for it!

My wife and I have 2 of these receivers. One for each of us. I have had mine for a 1 1/2 years, and my wife has had hers for a year. Neither of us have had any problems with the units losing signal even after constantly moving them between vehicles, work, and home docking stations. The sound quality is very good and the oversized displays makes them very easy to read.

I have had this receiver almost a year and have dropped it three times on pavement and it still works! The other day it slipped out and the top actually split open, and then I heard something rattling inside. I thought for sure it would never work again but it does with no problems. I have not even replaced the remote batteries yet!

I drive truck at night and have a cradle for it in each of my personal vehicles so it gets alot of use.

The only thing I do not like is the red colored screen. It is hard to read especially at night in the dark. Would of been better to have the font black instead of light colored or the whole thing blue. It is a little large but I like the larger buttons rather than small.

This product is great except for the fact it does not receive a signal inside your house which keeps you from ever listening to it while inside. Also, it is not compatible with an outside antenna or a "repeater" system sold by Sirius. It is portable but has weak reception!

I'm now in my 4th year with Sirius. As far as the radio and the daily service, it is absolutely awesome. You will not want to return to regular radio again after a couple days of Sirius. The hardware and product they give you daily is phenomenal.

That being said, dealing with the company itself, specifically over the phone, is an absolute nightmare. The utter incompetence of most of the customer service people is staggering. I'd say the average I.Q. is around 25. Harsh, but it is what it is.

Three of my four years with Sirius, I have been lucky enough where I've had family/friends want to pay for my yearly subscription as a Birthday/Christmas present. The first time a family member called Sirius, paid for the year with his credit card, and we thought it was set. His credit card was double charged, and at the beginning of January when my plan renews, I was also charged. We both called Sirius and the issue was not resolved for more than a week.

The second issue was a similar issue. A family member called Sirius, provided a credit card, and paid for the year. Once again, a few days into January $150+ was withdrawn from my checking account (renewal price). Not happy again, we had to haggle over the phone for a few days to get it rectified.

This brings me to this year. A friend and a family member wanted to pay for my subscription. They both contacted Sirius and asked if there were Gift Cards or Certificates that could be used towards the subscription. Obviously b/c of past issues. Both were told by Sirius operators that the easiest way was to purchase Egift Certificates, which are sent directly to the recipients email with a code to redeem them. That was what they did.

On December 30th I went to redeem them. Problem is they are only good towards Sirius hardware and cannot be used for subscriptions. I called Sirius to take issue. I was disconnected by the first two associates, the third was yawning into the phone, and finally the fourth try I got someone who could help. The associate told me I could use the Egift credits and buy Gift Cards from the Sirius shop and have them sent to me. I stated that my account was set to renew in a few days and this would be a problem. He assured me it wouldn't be, and transferred me to customer care.

At customer care, I spoke with an associate who assured me my account would be frozen, it would go into invoice billing, and I simply had to just wait for the Gift Cards to arrive in the mail. I had a bad feeling but decided to go that route. A week later the Gift Cards arrived.

Before I called Sirius back to redeem them, I checked my checking account. Sure enough once again Sirius charged me already for the yearly renewal. Problem this time, I had just paid a bunch of bills out of my checking and it overdrafted my account. I was furious and called Sirius once again. They admitted fault initially, but then began to change their stance and stated that I never had the Sirius account frozen. Luckily I document everyone I speak to. Sirius even refused initially to refund the overdraft fees from the bank. I finally spoke with a supervisor who agreed to refund the fees and subscription price. To rub extra salt in the wounds, it will take 7-10 days, my checking account is now frozen, and I have no way to use it right now. To top it all off, I still never got an apology from Sirius. So to put it simply, don't ask for your subscription to be paid for as a gift, and avoid dealing with Sirius directly. It is nothing but a hassle that probably will cost you days of problems. This might actually be my last year with them because of this. Good luck if you have to deal with them.

If you feel you need to be on the forefront where technology is concerned there are newer, updated Sirius portable radios that people are talking about. The portable radio isn't all that important to me, because I do a lot of listening via earbuds on my computer, however, the radio has been great. I've had no problems with it (doing what it's supposed to do) during the past two years. I bought the boombox and car kit to go along with it. I'm very happy with all of the products.

Ive had my unit for just over a year now and it is on the end of its life.

The are numerous other people that have the same issue with this product. Personally Ive never paid so much for a unit to have it fail within 1 year. It rendered 2 batteries dead within 1 year, and then just after the 1 year passed, now shuts down when it feels like and I have to go threough a number of steps just for it to record, else it just simply will not.

One of the main forums for sirius (siriusbackstage), delete negative posts now, so dont bet on finding a lot of negative reviews there. Seeing as there is supposed to be knowledgeable people there I posted my issue and was told that this routinely happens to units because of how much heat the unit generates (short life cycle). There is also a know memory corruption issue with the Stiletto 2.

If you do want to fork out the money for it, be sure as hell to buy an extended warranty. By the way, the company that makes them has not renewed their contract with Sirius to manufacture them anymore. Huh, wonder why? Probably getting killed on the returned items.

Summary:

Xm & Sirius great but personal portable radio models are way too expensive for the technology you get. Slacker G2 good concept but too new with inadequate support and bugs not worked out. iPhone/iTouch I am the happiest. Read on for more detail:

I first started with satellite radio xm to be exact.

What I like: unlike an iPod you can unlimited streaming music. And a selection of 100's of radio stations to choose from. And what was really great was based on what model of handheld you have you could store your favorite songs and make playlists right from the unit. And you get all this for a quarterly fee of under $40. Also depending on the model you can transfer your own MP3 songs to the unit.

What I didn't like: The portable radios where extremely expensive and low tech compared to an iTouch, or Slacker personal radio. I have owned several models through the years starting Pioneer XM2Go original model which was good. Then bought the Samsung Helix which was more small and compact with more features however lost the tuner cartridge which you needed to get satellite radio and it was just too many pieces to have and lose to make it work. Then my final purchase was the Delphi SkiFi radio. If you are reading this DO NOT BUY THIS! It was complete junk. It constantly froze up worked 25% of the time. Tried updating the software and it did not take. Sat on the phone for 1 hour for tech support and was still on hold. And the reception was horrible in the vehicle. And for paying over $150 and having it less then a year I had enough.

This then brought me to the store to shop for a new xm or Sirius radio. I then was introduced to Slacker radio G2.

What I like: Is that you had streaming music just like satellite radio. However you didn't need a separate receiver to make this happen it runs off wifi. So if you have a wifi connection your good to go and if you didn't have a connection if you where traveling etc. it has 15 hours stored of music for you to listen to. And what was cool was you can make customized radio stations. All you had to do was type in an artist you liked for example Madonna and it would add similar artists you might like such as Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilar, Pink, etc. This was all for free and if you wanted to pay extra you can store songs to and create play lists.

What I didn't like: Of course I wanted it all so I bought the premium plus subscription. What I didn't know was that the G2 was not compatible with Apple computers so if wanted to download my MP3, create playlist, etc. that was not possible with an Apple computer. That's o.k. I had two other Windows based computers. However the firmware that you need with from Slacker would not download on either one of those computers. I tried contacting the tech support however you can only do it via e-mail or chat which is only available during the weekdays. And trying to solve a problem that way can be quite frustrating. I paid close to $180 and for that I should get the service I deserve. I feel the concept of this is good however it's so new and there problems have not been worked out yet and they do not have adequate support. I was at my friend's house and saw her iTouch and for what she paid was close to the Slacker but more function in addition to radio.

So I returned my Slacker G2 because it did not do what it said it was to do and exchanged it for an iPhone.

What I like: It does everything and anytime anywhere no additional gizmos needed. Keep this in mind the difference between the iPhone and iTouch is that the phone of course is a phone but you can get internet wherever you can get phone service and phone plans have a fee. iTouch has all the same options but you need wifi to do any internet functions. I just bought the iPhone because I needed a new phone too. So in addition to streaming radio you can get other applications like facebook, podcasts, games, etc. There are so many to choose from, some of them are free, some of the are not. It's virtually a personal computer in the palm of your hand.

What I didn't like: I can still use Slacker streaming radio however you can't save or store songs you have to purchase them from iTunes then make a playlist. And battery life isn't the longest but what do you expect with all you get?

I love the music on XM, but the Skyfi3 is awful. It constantly gets frozen, and you have to "reboot" it all the time. I have stopped recording and downloading music because I have lost the memory twice. I will also store my favorite channels, and then for some unknown reason, the channels are erased along with the frequency channel I had previously set.

After 3 years of enjoying Delphi's MyFi, I had to replace it. The SkyFi3 was my gamble and it did not pay off. The reviews were mixed but, I chose to try this model. Within the first hour after activation, I realized that the FM transmitter did not work then it locked up. Exactly as reported by other reviewers. It did work with the hard antenna connection but, this is impractical for home stereo units or with other vehicles. The following morning it locked up again after just a few minutes of use. Without a reset button or removable battery, you must wait for the battery to die before you can get it to work again. Don't waste your time or $$ on this unit.

I got this to replace my MyFi which failed recently (won't charge) after a little over two years. I have to have one that records, since I like to listen while biking and hiking, and the standalone reception isn't very good when moving around. I've only had it for a month, but I really like it... It has some great features, like replay and replay record. The ability to rotate the display is excellent! It records three different ways (single song, channel, or scheduled) and has nice features to allow you to find, organize the recorded songs. Even creating playlists, and saving songs, so they don't delete when your record more. It weighs less than half of the old MyFi (keeps my shorts fro sagging, while I cut the lawn). I don't find it to be cheaply made. And I like the fact that they increased the menu complexity in order to get rid of all the buttons the MyFi had.

Only 5 stars because I'm not sure but I don't think the sound is quite as good as the MyFi. I don't notice it in the house or car (over speakers); but with earbuds, I think both the separation and dynamic range are lower. Does have a nice EQ, with 8 or so presets. AND (I don't know about you, but I am glad) that it automatically reduces the volume to mid level when you cycle the power. I used to blast my ears regularly, with my MyFi.

This is an old purchase and I don't know if they still make this "Home Adapter" kit for the Roady (probably get one like mine on eBay) but it let me transform my XM Roady into dual purpose radio that I listen to every night in the bedroom and take on the road when we travel. I ran the antenna under the bed and from its invisible location near a window I get perfect reception. I wasn't expecting much, but I figured the Belkin F5X007 would give me another way to maximize the monthly XM payment for using my Audiovox Xpress other than just listening in the car. First, it's bigger than I thought it would be - but more importantly, sounds much, much better than expected. This thing gets fairly loud with decent bass (bass & treble adjustments are made on the Audiovox Xpress unit using the included remote control). Forget using batteries. This thing drinks 'em like I drink beer, but that's OK. I don't plan to use batteries that much anyway. It'll mainly be used on the patio while BBQing & partying or hauled around inside the house - both times plugged into a wall AC. For other outdoor occasions, there's always the car's cigarette ligher socket to plug into. As expected, for indoor reception, it must be placed near a window; or place the unit wherever you want, plug in an external XM antenna that's run to a window, & you're in business. At any rate, it's well worth the money & highly recommended.

Admittedly I was not going to purchase anything made by Belkin, I was looking at the two boom boxes made by Delphi. I'm glad I could not find a Delphi in stock. This radio is great. It really looks a lot better in person than in the online pics. The sound is really great. Once I tweaked the base and treble it sounds awesome. The internal antenna is also really strong. It is nice that I can use a home antenna if I needed too though. The volume does a good job and is plenty loud enough to play outside. Even turned to the max at 30 the sound is pretty clear.

The only things I am not fond of is the AC power cord. It has a power converter(like a laptop plug but smaller)that is about two inches square. While listening to the radio it is not a problem but there is no storage for it on board the radio. It will fit in the battery compartment with a couple of mods to the battery door.

Anyway this is a great radio. Buy one.

This Belkin XM home antenna provides about the same signal gain as the original Delphi home antenna, but it is only about 2/3 the size and weight, making it an attractive option for travel. The actual metal plug configuration is, or would be, compatibile with all my various XMSR configuations here. Here comes the "but:"

In typical corporate bonehead style, Belkin has chosen a 90-degree plug for its antenna, whereas the original Delphi home antenna uses a straight plug. Why would they do that? My Delphi XM2go home dock has plenty of room for the right-angle plug, so maybe that's as far as they looked, it fits in there in a sorta snazzy-looking way. It also fits my Delphi SkyFi home dock, although barely (for the same reason), as well as my Altec Lansing inMotion iMX2 mobile speaker system for the XM2go. However, it does *not* fit into my Delphi portable boom box for the Delphi SkyFi; that unit has a cylindrical black collar that extends well above the actual jack, and although the actual plug is surely compatible, the Belkin F5X003's 90-degree plug housing will not extend far enough into the collar to reach the jack. Real dumb. Otherwise, I'd probably have given it four or maybe five stars.

My main concern was the fm transmitter as on other reviews it stated it was not very strong. I bought this unit for my father to use in his tractors and cotton picker of all places and I needed it to work thru the fm transmitter. Well, as adversited, it did not work very well in the tractor or combine. Now, in all fairness the radios in those are not state of the art by no means. He also uses this unit in his Chevy truck and I helped him set it up in ther also and he has been very very pleased. Never would have thought my dad would have become addicted to satellite radio...but he has. Overall, I was pleased with this unit and the price.

I purchased this product for use in a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe with factory XM Radio. I prefer the music and comedy on Sirius to that available on XM. Even though the companies are trying to merge, I also like using a portable satellite tuner so I can have satellite radio in both my vehicles and my home without having to pay for multiple subscriptions.

I use this tuner interface with the SCVDOC1 portable tuner dock, a Sportster 5, and an adapter that allows me to use the factory XM roof mounted antenna. The Sportster 5 is mounted in the glove box. The OEM radio display shows the proper Sirius category, channel name, channel number, artist, and song title. The OEM radio display scrolls when song or artist names are more than 16 characters, just like it does for the factory XM Radio. Sound quality is good and all of the factory radio controls work, including the steering wheel mounted controls. One point to note is that channel up/down on the steering wheel will not allow you to scroll through Sirius presents, it always does channel up/down. It is not a big deal as you can just reach over and push the preset button you want on the radio itself.

Overall, it is a great product that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to install Sirius in their Honda/Acura.

This product is exactly what you expect it to be. If you have the Delphi Roady XT this will replicate the car kit that the radio already came with and will give you a remote. I have this kit installed in my wife's car, my truck and my boat and have an extra one for a future vehicle. My only complaint is that the radio sticks to the cradle harder than the cradle sticks to the mounting bracket so its not exactly a breeze to take the radio out of your car, that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Like a lot of people I live in an area of poor broadcast reception. With the recent conversion to FIOS and the addition of a WiFi router as part of the package, I started looking for a way to use the system to get my favorite radio stations via the internet. This works great in the home office and I thought about wiring the rest of the house to the office -- big project that I didn't want to tackle. So I started researching Internet Radios. I do have stereo amplifiers in three rooms in the house so I wanted something portable, small and not really too expensive. I found "ira" -- Wow! Easy to use The previously mentioned problem with the remote has been fixed and I was loading my favorite stations within minutes of unpacking the unit.

I did not need, or want, a fancy unit with speakers and other stuff. Despite the fact that one stereo is located where I only get one-bar on the WiFi the sound quality is great. The only feature missing is a direct link to

"Favorites" (or I could not find it).

The press release from Myine Electronics states "Myine's Ira Wireless Internet Radio is designed to harness the universe of radio broadcasts available on the Internet and to allow user enjoyment anywhere a wireless internet connection, a speaker system and power sources are available." And that pretty well sums it up - and it does a great job at it too!

The general point of the unit is to not only give you access to the world of internet streaming radio and podcasts, but to do it easily, quickly, and without having to know a whole lot about what's going on with your network or connections. "There is a lack of good products available for people who are not tech savvy or just busy," said Jake Sigal, Principal and Founder of Myine Electronics. "Ira doesn't have any unnecessary bells and whistles, and sets up automatically right out of the box without a computer. We believe that with potentially confusing electronics, less is more."

When you first break the Ira out of the box, you'll see that it comes with the unit itself, a power cable, and a remote. It relies on WiFi being available to access the internet, and this is the first caution I would give potential buyers - make sure you have WiFi in your home, and that it is strong in the area you intend to put the Ira. The Ira seems very sensitive to interference and distance, so don't expect it to work as consistently and quickly as your laptop card does.

After plugging it in to the power and a set of speakers or a receiver, the next thing you'll need to do is configure it to access that WiFi broadcast. Although the Ira is geared towards `low-tech' users, it will definitely take some knowledge of networking and network configuration (plus a fair amount of patience) if you have any security enabled. Although it picks up the SSID if you are broadcasting that, and will tell you what type of security or encryption protocol, you'll need to be able to enter the passcode. If this is a WEP secure connection, this means you'll need to use the arrows on the remote and a pseudo keyboard on the screen to plunk out the 16 digits/characters/symbols - and unfortunately the Ira will not save incorrect configurations meaning you'll have to do it all again if you get one of the numbers wrong! It saves it if you get it right, so this may not be a big deal, particularly once you're past it.

Once you've got it all set up, you really start seeing the value and power of this unit. Users can filter by location or genre, and there are literally thousands of stations available. There are you're your typical shoutcast internet only stations, but also streaming live stations from around the globe. You've also got access to podcasts (including yours truly) and audio presentations, though you may find some of the more obscure ones missing. Myine selects the podcasts and stations that it will display through some mechanism that wasn't revealed to me. They did add podcasts that I requested (e.g., TechTalk on WRLR) without any questions or hesitation however, so I don't see this as a big hit.

If you're familiar at all with listening to radio or streaming audio on your laptop or desktop, you'll "get" this product immediately. What's really neat about it for me is how portable it is - I can listen to tunes up in my bedroom, then take the little unit downstairs to our porch outside, plug it into some speakers there and keep listening - without having to drag my laptop with it's rather junky soundcard all over the place! It's even small enough to throw in a jacket pocket and take to someone else's house to show off.

One area for future development and a feature that I really missed on the Ira is the lack of song information. Most stations broadcast the track and artist info with the song, but oddly the Ira unit does not display it. You can get a lot of other streaming and audio info, just nothing about the current track playing. The Ira software does have the capability to get updated over the wifi connection you use, so I would expect to see this fixed in a later release.

Overall Rating - 3 out of 5 Chips. It's a fantastic little product and idea, with portability and ease-of-use in the forefront of internet connected audio players (plus the benefit of not paying for XM or other similar options!). The lack of song tagging and weak reception strength make it just a little tougher to use than it should be however, and drops it down a notch. The price point is a touch high but still definitely within reach at around $130.

The myine IRA does exactly what they claim it does - deliver clear, uninterrupted internet radio wirelessly through your radio - in my case a Cambridge Soundworks model 88. Set up is instantaneous, sound is clear, & rarely run into connection problems. This allowed me to retire my XM Radio subscription; as an old-time radio fan I was delighted with the IRA's 9 old time radio channels. With 11,000 pre-configured internet radio stations, you can expect an even greater range of choices no matter what your musical taste. The small remote works fine for me, & is quite similar to the model 88 remote. my minor complaint is that the unit does not display content being displayed. When I emailed Myine to ask about this I got a response directly from the president of the company, and he & I ended up exchanging a few emails. i strongly recommend this unit.

Just received mine today. Had previously emailed the company wondering about a certain station in TX and whether it could be added (KPLX in DFW). The president of the Company Jake emailed me immediately and got the station included--going so far as to snap a photo of it with his cell camera and email it to me. Setup is easy, and it seems to be working just fine. Neat product and nice that there are no subscription fees to pay like on Sirius/XM (which we also do).

This is a very fun product. Zero frustration right out of the box easy to set up, except to use the device as a "free standing" player you will need a cheap female to female adapter (Radio Shack) for 3.5mm jack. I connect the MYINE to a set of old PC speakers using the adapter and viola. You can also use headphones/earbuds. Of course connecting to your home stereo is really the way to go and a cinch to wire up. The world of internet radio is opened up with this cool device. Most reviews comment negatively about the chintzy (it is) remote control. But hey, it works fine (but don't lose this thing as the device is controlled only by the remote). You don't need a PC, or laptop to receive something like 13,000 internet radio stations and podcasts but you do need a wireless WiFi router. The device works well from anywhere in my house. For the money, this is about as rewarding a technology buy as I have ever made. If you have eclectic music taste or want to explore, here is your chance. Many businesses (retail/restaurant) would get a lot out of this device as you can set store ambiance with just about any music format imaginable including in foreign languages not likely available in local market broadcast radio. Most of what I listen to is commercial free.

This would make a great (and resonably priced) gift for most anybody. I am glad I made mine MYINE (oh, brother).

You can use both the Stiletto1 and Stiletto2 with it, so when your SL1 kicks the bucket and they stop making it, you upgrade to the SL2 you can still use your boombox.

This is an excellent home and portable (garage, yard, etc) unit. I've had mine since Sep 07. I love it.

However...

FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY OWN THE BOOMBOX, PLEASE NOTE:

The design of the connector where the antenna plugs into the antenna jack on the back of the boombox defies modern day logic. It is deeply recessed. Therefore when UNPLUGGING the antenna from the unit, it is difficult to grab onto the metal part of the connector, leaving only the antenna wire itself to pull on. This has proven not to be an acceptable method of removal for those of us with larger hands. If for some crazy reason this should happen to you too, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT push the wire back into the connector(even if you have reason to believe that jamming the metal connector back on to the wire is an approved repair procedure). The boombox has shown signs that it can detect your faulty repair procedure and in turn will likely exhibit behavior consistent with that of a boombox that is no longer interested in "aquiring a signal". If you reach this point, it is already too late. Other features seem to be unaffected, but the antenna is now a display item only.

I was a little put off by the word "boombox." The last boombox that I bought had a dorky plastic handle and a dual cassette deck. Needless to say, things have changed. I listen to my Stiletto constantly and keeping the batteries charged has been an issue. The boombox charges the battery as I listen. The other big advantage to this product is that it is light and easy to carry to the area of the house where I plan to listen. There are recessed spaces that function as handles on either side of the speakers.

I was worried about the controls because I couldn't find a picture of the buttons on top before I bought it. The buttons are very small and all of the functions that I need are there. If you love your Stiletto, this is a must have.

Use: I used it for my XM radio in my Honda Civic, stuck right above the center consol.

Pros: It was simple and quick to install. The suction cup is strong and connects securely to the windshield. It also came with a small disc, with adhesive on one side, which adheres to the window. You can then suction to the other side of the disc.

Cons: Because of the length of the arm the XM radio thrashes around you drive.

I ordered this pedestal for my XM radio. I love it. Before the radio sat in a cubby hole in the dash. If we wanted to see who was singing or change the station we pulled it out of its little space. This could be hazardous while driving. But now it hangs up and we are able to view it from driver side or passenger side. I have hung it high and adjusted it so it is not obstructing the driver. I also ordered the remote for the radio, so we are set. Of note: it was a little difficult to twist into the position I wanted, but with a little time and patience it should work.

I have been using this case for 8 months and totally love it! I use it on my Stiletto 2 actually, even though it's not indicated, because it looked tougher than any other case I could find. I also own the "official" armband case, made by sirius (see my in-depth review). I mention this because you can't use the Ruggedized case INSIDE the armband case.

It is flexible rubber (like the bottom of tennis shoes) and it definitely has the most thickness of rubber on the market.

Probably the only reason it isn't indicated for use on stiletto2 is that I had to cut a hole on the right side of the case, so I could turn it on and off without taking it out of the case. (Apparently, the power button on stiletto 10/100 was near the volume control on the left side.) I used the ruggedized case for two months before I cut out the holes, though, so therefore it DOESN'T REQUIRE MODFICATION TO FIT.

Also a little bit of rubber-cutting was necessary to plug a mini-phono jack (the regular headphone jack) in while it's in the case. This doesn't affect charging with the 12v adapter without the car dock (I've not gotten around to installing my car kit, so I just plug in the cigarette lighter adapter plug into the bottom and a male-to-male mini-phono to the female mini-phono input of my Eclipse stereo. Not a lot of people do this, but if you have enough music saved on it, you don't need the live radio (for me, IMHO).

You must remove this ruggedized case to dock in any dock (car or home). You wouldn't want it to fit, because if it did, the bottom wouldn't be protected when undocked with the case.

For even greater protection, I also kept the unit in the ruggedized case in a third case, an Intec-brand Nintendo Gameboy Advance/DS Lite case with a plexiglass window on the front (to see if the unit's in the case). It would rattle around a little, if I didn't keep a 3/8" piece of foam behind the unit. That way it's pressed up against the plexiglass nice and tight: not breaking-the-lock tight, just compressing the foam a little. I'm sure any Nintendo DS case would work also. PSP cases may, but haven't tried.

This is a great product and I'd recommend it to anyone! 5/5 Stars!

I didn't take off points for having to modify it, since it's not offically designed and designated for use with Stiletto2. The bottom line is that it's the best case for Stiletto 10/100, AND Stiletto2 (whether it's designed for it or not!)

I purchased this item primarily because I knew it matched up well with a particular Motorcycle mount I was buying. After receiving the purchase, I activated the unit and could not get a consistant signal. The antenna was always disabled and searching for a signal. Before returning it, I purchased a sirius system and it worked perfectly. I, then was sure I had a defective unit. I must say, Amazon was great in allowing me to return the unit, even though it was past the 14 day return period of the company that shipped it to me. I have had sirius for two years, and have two friends that I give 3 subscriptions to as gifts (each additonal subscriptin is about 8 dollar a month) - they all love them. I have a life time subscription. My original audiovox got ripped off, so I needed to get it replaced - and they don't hold it as one of the three changes in radios I am allowed. For the money, the third version of the Autiovox is best - it gives good fm transmistion that has had to be toned down per the FCC in other models. Unless you want to record the shows with protable models that are more expensive, this is the way to go. Sirius content is better than xm - esp. if you love nfl football, nba basketball, etc.

I've been using the radio for about a week now. In that week, I've driven through southern Ontario, western NY, PA, WV, MA, and VA.

Radio itself: Seems well built, solid. Has a nice FM transmitter. I haven't experienced any of the problems other people seem to have with the newer radios (i.e. week transmitter). LCD is clear and bright, even during the day. My only complaint is the number of 'motions' required to change the frequency (Menu button, scroll down 4 or 5 options, select FM Frequency, scroll down to 2nd option, select it, etc...). As I was traveling through several States, I ended up changing about three to four times. If you end up staying in one area, then this won't be as important to you.

Mount: It works. I 'stuck' it to my dash and will not end up screwing it in - I don't need to from the looks of things. It's a bit tough getting the radio out of the cradle. Also, the first time I changed the position of the cradle, it felt like I was going to break it. Other reviews, however, had prepared me for this and I wasn't worried too much.

Sirius service: I bought this in the States (I currently live in Canada) because I wanted the US service (why does everything in CAN appear to be a watered down version of the comparable product/service available in the US?). However, I needed a US credit card...hrm...so I signed up for the CAN service instead. It looks like I lose a few channels and the service costs more ($20 for start up, $15 for service PLUS GST!!!). On the good side, however, the CAN service worked flawlessly in the States as I expected and I experienced no hickups when crossing the border. Also, I was told by Sirius CAN that because I have a US radio, that I will be able to get the US stations when I move back down (and acquire US service plan). Otherwise, if I had bought a CAN system, I would have had to re-purchase a US system in order to get the US specific stations.

Ok - I made a believer out of my wife. She was a bit skeptical about me spending 15 a month on this, but with 28 + hours of driving behind us, she's now impressed with the station quality and selection. So am I

UPDATE: APRIL 13, 2007. Here's something I just found out. I purchased a US radio with the intent of using the US Service in Canada (see watering down comment above). That didn't fly because I don't have a US credit card. Fair enough, so I sign up for the CAN service. Just found out that I won't be able to pick up some CAN stations because my radio is a US model. Also, I won't be able to pick up many (by my count 10) US stations because I have the CAN service. It's the worst of both worlds in my mind, for now. I still get about 95% of Sirius stations, so I'm not too upset. Plus, when I move back down to the States I won't have to re-purchase a new unit.

So, just be aware of where your radio is coming from and which service you intend to use.

This is a GREAT idea, all I have to do is buy a compatible portable device (because they say that in their advertisement) and no more dismounting a portable unit from my car and snapping it into a boombox. Now, all I'll have to do is plug in this card right? Wrong! Where are the compatible portable devices as advertised? Maybe I'm missing something here... Please correct me if I'm wrong. However, If I'm not wrong, then don't buy this if your looking for something to move from the car to a boombox because the technology isn't there!

It kind of bothered me when I discovered I would need to purchase an additional accessory to make my XM function on $1200 receiver - however that's the way it was. This unit does everything is promises, XM comes through my system crystal clear.

They give you plenty of antenna cord to get it to where you need.

I did have an issue when I initially hooked up the XM where a screaming static would come through rather than music until I re-powered the system each time - wound up I had a defective Denon receiver.

All is well now - highly recommended.

"Best Of The Lot" 2009-08-01

I'm a self confessed weather radio enthusiast. I can be in any room in the house, or my shed or car for that matter, and hear the latest alert when it comes a callin'. I have to say without a doubt that this model from Midland is the all 'round best of all I own. In all honesty, designing and building a good weather radio doesn't sound like all that much of a major undertaking in my opinion. That's why I happen to feel that just about any radio I own from any brand will do the job asked of it. This Midland unit seems to me to be a leader in its field however in the areas relevant to what most people seem to find important. Its ruggedly built, has a long solid antennae, has three different modes of alert that you can choose from, (including a volume adjustment for the siren)clear and precise reception in its weather mode, (that's all that matters to me in a weather radio....sorry), is very easy to program, and most of all I have come to find that of all the weather radios I have owned, the Midland units seem to never die. The "beeping" sound that everyone seems to find annoying here doesn't bother me. Its not very often that you have to play with more than the on and off button under normal use after you have all the "same" codes entered and stored. And besides, the beeping is a safety mechanism to let you know that a button has been pressed, and therefore something possibly changed or altered, and perhaps you may not get the alerts and such as you will expect. A prevention for accidentally changing a setting if you will. If it really does bother you all that much, turn down the volume all the way while you're fiddling with the buttons and you will not hear the beep. (Don't forget to turn it up again). One thing about this particular model should be kept in mind before buying. Midland sells this radio, (as they do their entire line of weather radios) in this "mossy oak camo" as they call it, (which is really cool looking by the way) for a premium. A sometimes $10 or more premium over the exact same model in a dorkier exterior. One must decide for themselves if the extra money they demand is worth being fashionable. Well, its a mono-speaker weather radio... The reception is nearly as good as my CB/Weather Radio in my truck, which is very good. Its better than any other portable weather radio I have owned. The batteries get eaten fairly quickly as part of the radio is always on. Use the power adapter at home. I used it camping and pulled in the ball game on AM - marginally. FM in that remote location was not so exciting. My shortwave radio naturally had it beat in remote AM/FM reception. At home AM/FM is fine. Nice features, the key beep is unnecessary. Programming could be simplified, but can be done if you can read the manual.

Very easy install.. but a little warning. You may need to purchase a shielded cable. ( ie: Monster or Acoustic Research). Hooked up two of these one downstairs, one upstairs.Downstairs on a inexpensive audio system (Aiwa bookshelf system CD.Cassette,Am/Fm). That one worked fine. Upstairs on a larger Denon A/V Receiver not so good, major humming noise.Turns out the unshielded cable supplied with home kit picks up major electrical interference from receiver (I'm sure there's a proper word for that). Discovered I wasn't the only one with that problem.Installed a shielded cable for about $13.00 noise gone. This probably applies to the home kit for the SKYFI2 if it uses the same cable.

I have been an XM Radio subscriber since July of 2003. My original radio was a SKYFI. It was great. In July my two year subscription expired, and I renewed for three years. In September I decided I wanted to use the service in a second vehicle. In order to use the same radio in both vehicles I was forced to Purchase a SKYFI II. I was told all I would have to do is switch the radio to my existing account. I did as told and for the last four weeks I have had no service.

I have spent at least five hours on the phone with XM's Customer Care and, like a previous reviewer, I have received nothing but blow off answers.

There is a problem with their software that does not allow the switch to the new radio. I have asked them to close my account and refund my money for the subscription, but they tell me they can't do that until they fix the problem with their system software. In other words, when they fix their system so they can activate my radio, then they can refund my money.

I have also asked them to send me a new radio, but they refused.

When I mention that I want a refund so I can switch to Sirius the hang up on me.

I'm stuck with about $200.00 in equipment and $300.00 in a worthless subscription.

Be careful.

I bought this product after subscribing to Sirius online and I'm completely happy with it. Yes, there are a few drawbacks, such as no presets for FM and AM, but if you have satellite radio you shouldn't be listening to anything but satellite. There is no volume control on the remote which forces you to get up, but I don't mind because I'm always very close to the radio. However, the remote does have a mute button and the settings are very simple and accessible. My only criticism is that the presets are grouped by letter and are accessed by pressing the band button on the remote and then selecting a number 1-5, but that's about all. I've only had the radio for a few days now and its great. I'm going to buy the repeater system because the reception is poor on the south end of my house, but even at one bar the audio quality is spectacular and clear. If you're unsure about whether or not to purchase this item I would recommend researching the area you live in for reception and the placement of your radio to ensure the greatest music experience. If you don't mind spending the cash go for it, because this radio has definitely turned me back onto the radio.

I just bought this radio at Costco for $[...]. I bought it for the FM/AM radio. My niece bought it and she said the minimum Sirius subscription is $14.50/month. So don't buy this expecting to get the minimum service level from Sirius. I like Tivoli products and already have the rechargable Pal radio but I wanted something for the office. This radio looks nice, takes up little space and has great reception without the included antenna. It sounds great too. Eventually I will get the other speaker for stereo sound.

Con: None of the other buttons work except for tuner dial, volume, and sector switch, on/off. So you can't store preset, etc. This is no big deal to me.

The XACT Power Pod is not the most sophisticated and sleek piece of technology you will ever own, but it does the job of letting you take your Sirius receiver away from your home/car. I brought mine to Florida on my last vacation. I was able to bring my radio out onto the beach and listen to Radio Margaritaville for about 3 hours on a charge (needed to connect a pair of powered speakers of course). Just enough time to get a nice sunburn. I have recently purchased the boombox for the XACT so the pod will probably be collecting dust in my closet.

Pros: Long listening time per charge, relatively small, good antenna positioning, battery gague.

Cons: Unless you want to use it with headphones buy the boombox, a bit pricey.

I wanted a Sirius unit that would allow me to listen on my way to work. I take a short trolley ride from my apartment in Philadelphia to a train station, and then a 30-minute train ride to work in the suburbs. Therefore, I needed a portable unit. My options as of today were this unit (for the XTR1 receiver) or the XS043 for the Xact Rego. The XS043 is unacceptable because the antena is built into custom headphones, meaning I'd be forced to use their rather bulky-looking headphones instead of my own, and I've yet to own a pair of headphones that lasted longer then 3-4 months.

The reception: In my apartment its great. On the trolley its great (until I hit the tunnel). At the train station its great. On the train - not good. The signal is almost completely lost in north Philadelphia, and is at best sporadic the entire train ride towards Norristown, even with the antenna held by the window. And I get ZERO reception at work itself. Therefore, this unit is largely useless to me.

Speaking of "largely," this thing is "portable" in the sense that a bowling ball is portable. Its bulkier than the first generation of tape cassette walkmen, and is a bit heavy. I can't keep it in my pocket like my radio walkman, and there's not even a way to clip it to my belt if I were inclined (I'm not). I carried it around in my gym bag.

It uses a custom battery that only lasts three hours, but takes 8+ hours to charge. There's a battery power indicator on the unit, but it doesn't seem terribly accurate.

So, in all, I can at least listen while waiting for my train, but it wasn't worth the price just for that. I'd have been better off with just a home mounting kit (which, with its 20-ft antena, will hopefully let me get a signal at work as well).

This unit is great in the big cities... but take it to a rural town with no terrestrial antennas and the reception really falls off. The item is a great concept, as in carrying it as a walkman, but the actuallity of carrying it in rural area, it just does not recieve the signal. I am hoping the home unit and vehicle unit work better.

I picked this unit up at a local thrift store for the staggering amount of $10.00, new in the box, so that might color my judgment of it a little. I used the receiver in the car and swapped it in the boombox for home use, until I replaced the car unit with a Visor.

For this thing's size, it puts out a fair amount of sound, and the clarity is really amazing for speakers this size, which is about 3 inches, I'd say. It won't please the audiophile in your life, but it will bring the satellite radio out of the car and into your home.

It looks a little clunky and is quite heavy, especially when loaded down with batteries, but it's got a nice solid feel to it, unlike many of the current electronics out there. If you have an XAct that'll fit this, buy it. I have to take one star off for the receiver popping out on occasion, but other than that, it's a great accessory to have.

Xact customer service informed me they were no longer responsible for the unit. Before buying this product search the web and you will find many "13 month" stories. Instead, I would suggest buying directly from Sirius.

The XACT XS025 boombox is a solid performer. It is not going to win any awards for sound quality or looks but it gets the job done and it does it well. If you want to bring your commercial free radio to a party, picnic or beach, this boombox will serve you well. I was surprised I was able to listen to satellite music inside my house. The blue lighted power/volume knob is kinda cool.

I like the fact that you can plug this boombox in or load it up with 700 D batteries (OK 8 D batteries - but it is pretty heavy). You can get about 4 or so hours of listening time with battery power. Good enough for a typical party. If you are going to an all-nighter, bring spares.

Pros - great reception, decent sound, AC/DC option, good battery listening time, cool volume light.

Cons - U-G-L-Y, heavy when loaded with batteries, clunky carrying handle.

The cable between the interface and the Sirius receiver does NOT have anything retaining it, and I did use the elecricians tape wrap as a fix for that problem. However the main beef I have is that while I have good radio, there is no good communication with the unit to the cars display. I have an Avalon, and while this may work well on other Toyota's (only a guess by me, of course), it won't even give me the channel number to which I am tuned. No information.. Nada. Some great interface, huh?

The plug that goes into the back of this thing has nothing to "catch" it. Because of this, the plug won't stay connected. I haven't had SIRIUS radio for more than 2 days without having to go back in and reconnect the cable to the back. I even tried using electrical tape and taping the hell out of it but it still came out. I don't see how anyone has any success with this product when the cable doesn't fit.

I installed this in my wife's 2009 Toyota Corolla. Couldn't be easier. All the wires are in the trunk to install this unit in the Corolla. I had to buy SIRIUS SCC1 SIRIUS Connect Universal Tuner to connect to this unit. One note about the Corolla "Don't bother spending the $60.00 for the antenna connection wire to use with the stock antenna that is already on the car. You can just cut the antenna wires on the antenna that comes with the TOYSC1 and just cut off the connector in the trunk and splice the wires together. Anybody that can solder a wire can splice these wires together. One suggestion. Instead of trying to solder together the wires that are on the outside of the core wire (shielding or ground wire) just solder a jumper wire from one end of the shielding to the other wires shielding , this is much easier. Hope this help you save $60.00."

This product really helped me out. I had another that was faulty, due in part to age. Purchasing this unit allowed me to easily slide it in and I was ready to run. The only issue was that the password to unlock the channels was not provided and therefore it took 3 1/2 hours on the phone with Sirius trying to determine what was blocking the channels. Finally resolved, and everything else is academic.

What we got was unusable unless one already had a boom box (another $100.00+ expenditure). We happened to have a boom box which we had been using with our first receiver, and so we have a permanent receiver now with the boom box, but we had wanted it for our truck.

I purchasd the AR Internet Radio (Model ARIR200), arriving about a week ago. I now have it hooked up and operating, and I am well satisfied with the result.

However, it was not easy getting there.

The quick setup instructions tell me that I must first register the product. I go to the computer and log on to the address provided. I fill out a five page form, then try to submit. I must first enter the script shown below. There is nothing shown. I try to submit with a blank entry. The web site is not available.

My problems are just beginning. I call the service number provided in the instructions. I am connected to Audiovox, a service company. It is quickly apparent that they know little about the product. The first girl compensates for that lack with a sassy attitude. It is my firewall. Disable the firewall and all will be well. It isn't.

In fact it was the fourth call before someone answered who knew the source of the problem. The AR server was down, and had been for at least a week. I could of course return the radio.

I don't want to return the radio!

A separate sever was found, this one through RCA, and I only had to fib a little bit to get my radio registered.

I now found that there were several services provided in which I have no interest. One, that provides on-line storage for my own MP3's, hangs the radio up until either a) it is unplugged, or b) the MP3 site is separately registered. A ditty by Marlene Dietrich is now stored on-line, for all I know for eternity.

That accomplished, I now go to sleep to BBC World Service, or classical music, or jazz, without sharing my cot with my laptop. Hooray!

Back in 2001 there were several MP3 players on the market. They were all pretty mediocre and did pretty much the same thing. And then Apple came along and changed the entire industry. Why? It wasn't because of superior hardware or some revolutionary new technology unavailable to their competitors. It was because of their superior software and insight into what makes a good user interface and a good consumer experience.

This is what the ARIR200 lacks. It's got 22 buttons, an LCD display, a control wheel, a 512K audio buffer, Wifi, USB, AM/FM tuner, and ethernet port. The only thing lacking is the vision for how to turn this pile of stuff into a really good product.

The user interface is workable, but amature. Most of the 22 buttons are useless. The 512K buffer is also pretty much useless, but with good software, it could be made into a Tivo-like feature for pausing and re-winding live media.

Acoustic research would benefit greatly from releasing their software sources to the open source community and letting them polish up the ARIR200 into a truly good product.

I spend 2-3 hours in the traffic, daily. I was not able to continue listening the public radio in Mexico City. All the stations are a commercial space, and I thought sattelite radio was my option. Although I live in Mexico City, I ran the risk to go for an XM radio. I choose Terk XM due to the good comments in the few reviews. And I am happy on my decision. I bought it through Amazon during a trip to LA, and activate the radio there. Surpsisingly, after being professionally installed, I am now listening a different radio on my go. Approximately 60 music stations plus some news, family, etc., ones. Reception is practically crystal clear, and I spend the journey 'happilly different'.

This radio is pretty good! I have a specially modified vehicle because I'm in a wheelchair so it took a while longer to install probably about 2 1/2 hours but it wasn't difficult to actually do it, it was just difficult because of the way the radio was positioned for the vehicle in its housing. If you have basic electronic knowledge you should be able to hook this up without a problem. I have a infinity sound system in my car and the only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is sometimes the sound is a little chintzy, the reception is excellent and I have had very few problems, I am constantly surrounded by mountains where I live and I only had one problem for a short time.

The device does exactly what it says it does. It's very convenient because it allows me to take the receiver out of my car and plug it into my system in my house. Setup was very easy. You have to make sure to get a good location for the antenna, though, otherwise the stations may cut in and out due to interference. Also, the connection for the RCA cables is rather loose on the dock, so you have to make sure that the cable is actually plugged in or you will not get any sound. Otherwise a good product and recommended.

I got mine last week. No signal in the gym that's no big deal. Once I charged it up and got it posistioned on my head over my ball cap I was on my way. I walk my dog daily, now I listen to my favorite music (the 60's) on 6. It cuts out a bit under heavy tree cover but again no big deal. It's a bit cumbersome to carry but I put the radio in my pocket and it workd out fine. All in all I like it will keep it and recomend it. Just don't expect too much. Out door people should love it for walking its great.

The area in which we live,(Eastern PanHandle of WV), those frequencies already have something on them that causes interference, so we are forever switching freguencies. We can use this radio on our home stereo though. It's big and bulky, and it gets hot setting on the dash of the car, but other then these problems we like the radio. We also have the Sirius Sportster Satellite radio that works better in the car because you can use any freguency and is a smaller radio.

I've owned this 'brick' about 2 1/2 years and have been reasonably satisfied. It does run hot, but it seems to be able to function well regardless. I have not had a problem with the unit. Reception is good in most areas, and when it isn't, usually there is a reason - trees, bridges, etc - or strong signals from terrestrial stations on the same FM band. Switching to other bands (there are 4 settings in the car docking station) sometimes improves the signal reception over FM. I also have the boom box, and it works well as long as you position the antenna to pick up the satellite. That sometimes can be difficult. Overall, I have to recommend this product. It has not failed me in 2 1/2 years and continues to work well. Mounting the unit in the car cradle takes some practice and care. I have managed not to damage my unit even though the way the radio plugs into the cradle seems somewhat fragile. I read reviews of some of the newer units, and considering what problems many people encountered with those units, I'd buy another one of this model if I was in the market. Oh, why do I call it a 'brick'? Doesn't it resemble a brick? It does to me! It's not the most attractive satellite radio unit on the market, but it gets the job done pretty well for me.

"Good Sound But Poor User Interface." 2009-10-23

I'm not as enthusiastic as the first reviewer since I have other radios to compare it to so I'm giving this Coby radio only 3 stars because of the 2 line display and the user interface being so clunky and hard to use although it plays well. I would give it 4 stars if the interface were improved. There are no knobs, just a lot of buttons on the top that are used for going up and down through a confusing array of menus in order to find anything. The buttons tend to stick, are sometimes hard to push and difficult to find in the dark. It would be easier to use after memorizing the menus but since you can't see them you have to keep them in your head and they are hard to follow on the little 2 line display. Coby has another model with a 6 line display that would be better but it costs more. Other radios with 5-6 line displays are much easier to navigate when you can see the whole menu at one time and have a rotary know to scroll through them. This radio could really benefit from a remote control.

I also have 2 other internet radios, an IR808 similar to the Kaito IR-168 and an RCA/AR RIR205 from Audiovox to compare this to. While the RCA uses Vtuner for it's portal and the IR-168 uses IR168's own site this radio uses the Frontier Silicon wifi radio portal but it seems to be based on Vtuner. Frontier Silicon, in the U.K., designed the radio's processor module, wrote it's firmware and also provides the website for radio makers and owners to use. When I first opened the box and got the radio out and plugged it in, it connected to wifi and got a station right away which was a surprise since I had a lot of trouble getting the first 2 other radios to work at all. I did have to update my wifi router from an old 802.11B to a D-Link DI624 G model a while back though which is a big part of why it worked right out of the box.

The radio is smaller than it looks in the photos. They do say it's compact but it's no bigger than a loaf of pound cake. In spite of the light plastic cabinet it's a lot heavier than I expected. The wifi antenna is hot glued inside the top of the cabinet but the rest of it seems well put together. The speakers look small but produce good sound and are quite loud in spite of only a 2 Watt per channel power rating. I also noticed that it was made by Hip Shing Elect. Co., model IR706. They also make Grace radios. Coby doesn't really make anything, they buy items from other manufacturers with the Coby name put on them to resell. I also have a Coby HD AM/FM radio which I like but it's actually a Mondo Revo. One potential drawback to this radio design is that everything is done on the Frontier Silicon web site, even storing Favorites. This means the radio won't work at all if their web site is down. The RCA has a similar design that relies on the RCA/AR web site but some others such as the IR-168 have their own built-in web server that you can browse to with your PC and store Favorite stations directly into the radio's memory.

While other radios tend to have an SD memory slot or USB jack for playing your own music files this radio has neither. They claim it can stream audio from a PC using uPnP with Windows Media Player 11 and the manual even shows how to setup WMP 11 to do streaming, something I've never found explained in other manuals. Other radios such as the IR-168 claim they can do streaming using uPnP too but they don't tell how to do it. I was only able to get that to work in Windows 7 though and not in XP Pro. However, most security experts say to never use uPnP at all and to always keep it disabled because it allows hackers access to your files. If you aren't worried about hackers, have Windows 7 or can get XP to stream and have a lot of music, podcasts or audio books on your PC you want to play then this feature would be handy. There is also a way to get iTunes and VLC media player to stream over wifi to the radio but when I tried that my router kept crashing. One advantage this radio has is the ability to receive KFI and other Clear Channel stations that are difficult for internet radios to get. It won't play if you use the radio to go to Region and browse to LA, Calif. then choose the station however. That just produces a Network Error but if you go on the web site and choose the station and add it as a Favorite then it plays but tends to work intermittantly.

This radio would be the best for someone who only listens to a few stations and can store them in the Preset buttons where they are easy to access. It's not really that great for someone who wants to browse the web a lot, they would want a bigger display and easier to use controls. The RIR205 and the IR-168 are both easier to use to browse the web for stations than the Coby.

The build-in FM tuner is more sensitive than I expected and even has RDS, a feature normally found in car radios, to show the station's call letters and the title and artist of the song that's playing on the screen, something that's not mentioned in the manual or on the web site. The FM tuner doesn't get HD stations but the radio has a feature listed under Internet Radio called HDi (also not mentioned in the manual) that has a list of HD2 channels from various stations around the USA that are on the internet. It doesn't get all of them however.

Pros

1. Blue & white display is bright and easy to see but only from the front, not the top where the controls are.

2. Has Help built-in but it's hard to read on the little 2 line display.

3. FM radio plays better than expected, is more sensitive than other radios and has a real whip antenna instead of just a piece of wire hanging out the back.

4. Can receive KFI 640AM but sometimes it works and sometimes you get a network error.

5. Faster than the others to connect to the wifi router and tune in stations.

6. Remembers it's internet settings and it's wifi connection when power is off in spite of not having any backup batteries.

7. Besides internet radio and FM there is also an option to play podcasts and streams from a PC.

Cons

1. Display is only 2 lines and hard to see unless you are right in front so you have to put the radio up at eye level but then it's hard to see the buttons on top. It's also too bright at night and there's no way to turn it down but you could use it for a flashlight or nite lite to illuminate the bedroon.

2, Display doesn't scroll so you have to keep pressing Info to see all the data. It doesn't show the song or artist either when playing internet stations.

3. Volume buttons stick and are harder to operate than a knob.

4. Favorites are hard to add, you have to browse through a long list on the web site to find and select each one and you can only add one at a time.

5. Only has 5 Presets for internet and 5 for FM.

6. Built in wifi antenna not as sensitive as some others that are external.

7. No remote.

8. No SD memory slot or USB connection for playing your music files from flash memory or USB thumbdrives.

9. No Ethernet jack, wifi only. A USB jack on the rear is marked Service Port Authorized Use Only and doesn't seem to do anything.

10. Can only play MP3, WMA and RealAudio file types. At least those are the only types listed on the web site when you add a station. Other radios can also play AAC, WAV and AIFF. The Frontier Silicon prototype this radio is based on can play AAC so it probably just needs a firmware update to play additional formats.

11. No user forum available for support like other radios have.

I ended up sending it back because I couldn't explain to anyone in the household how to tune in a station on it.

I have had numerous XM radio devices in the past few years and this by far is the easiest interface I have used with an aftermarket CD receiver. It is plug and play with very few wires to connect to the Pioneer head unit. The antenna is fairly small and receives excellent reception from within the vehicle.

I have previously owned the GEX-P900XM tuner with an older unit and it did not do half of the things this one does. This will display the channel logo, song title, station name, and artist (at least on the AVIC Z110BT).

I picked the XM tuner over the Sirius tuner because I got a great XM annual subscription deal (thanks to another Amazon.com reviewer), plus I just admired XM's lineup a lot more than Sirius, but still I opted for the XM Everything Pak with The Best Of Sirius so I could get Howard Stern, NFL and Playboy radio, all great channels.

The GEX-P920XM tuner works great with my Avic F700bt Head Unit. Its basically plug and play, you just have to ground it, insert the antenna and connect the IP-Bus cable to the rear of your Pioneer HU. All the channels come in nice and clear and I have my antenna hidden in the rear deck window behind the subwoofer grille in my Lexus (thats INSIDE the car folks) with zero reception issues. The tuner is hidden in the well below the passenger's seat. The sound is on par with CD quality and integrates well with my entire car audio set up. I couldn't be happier, thanks to Pioneer and thanks to Amazon.com for the great price!

If you are looking for satellite radio in your car, I recommend a Pioneer HU and this tuner. Its a clean and neat alternative set up compared to the annoying separate Sirius XM external tuners that crowd your dashboard.

I purchased yesterday this little piece of crap. I am a standard user of Logitech products and, despite they are not top quality, there are some of them which are really good, like the Harmony 1100 remote control.

So, in this case, I thought I was buying a good product. Totally wrong!!! The product loses constantly the connection with my Netgear wireless router. I thought the problem was with my router, but it was not. I tested it with 2 different notebooks and with my PS3 and no problem at all. Also, my ADSL connection is stable and with a very good bandwidth. Hence, I discarded Internet issues as I could watch movies and listen radio in my computer with no issues at all.

So, next step was to update the firmware of the crappy Squeezebox. Tried many times via WiFi and all of them were unsuccessful (the device turned off always at the middle of the update and gave an error message which is not documented and is not self-explanatory), so I plugged it to the router with a Lan cable and it could finally upgrade the firmware. Tested again, and no solution: the connection with the router is lost as soon as an Internet Radio starts playing. And the device does not respond anymore to the remote control, so it must be unplugged and plugged again.

So, I was testing many different options, but nothing solved the problem. The support page from Logitech? A bad joke! The "troubleshooting" is like the ABC for kids in the kindergarten, but no real solutions. No e-mail to contact them, just phone numbers.

I suspected that the problem should be somewhere else, so I installed the SoftSqueeze and tried in my computer: some radios work, but when the stream takes longer to load, the software simply freezes. So, not even the "soft" solution works.

I am returning this piece of crap tomorrow and will purchase some real Internet Radio product.

My advice: spend your money smarter and not in this garbage.

My big question here is: is my device faulty? Because I can't believe so many positive feedbacks unless they are written by Logitech!

I love my squeezebox 3 and squeezebox duet! These units coupled with the squeezecenter software really unlock your digital music. The streaming is flawless and sound quality is also terrific. I think the squeezebox setup is much more flexible and cheaper than the alternative (i.e., sonos). The duet controller is very nice and easy to navigate with one hand. It syncs flawlessly with my Rhapsody subscription as well as my digital music collection (which is on a WHS). I would be happy to answer specific questions if you want to email me. Overall I am very pleased with my purchases and definitely plan on buying more squeezebox's to extend my music to all my rooms! Highly recommended!

Purchased about 3 weeks ago despite looking for a unit to play/control iPod (reviews indicated as weakpoint). Also wanted I'net radio (have a CCrane / Reciva at bedside).

Had it integrated into my 8.11g net literally in minutes, I'net stations much easier to locate than on the Crane, load / buffer delay minimal on station changes. Some might want more presets.

Then downloaded the SqueezeCenter software, and turned my laptop (for now) into a music server, including my iPod library (CAUTION: non DRM material only).

To me just as good as plugging in the iPod. Being able to control the unit from the laptop negates the display / remote problems --- I can't see the unit from my normal listening position.

Overall sound quality is some where between FM and CD, depending on source. Wouldn't make it my main system, nor relagate to talk radio on the CCrane.

I got my HK3 Home Kit for PNP3 a week or two ago and it was easier setting it up than it was in the car. I have my antenna sitting on my front yard (I cut a small hole in the bug screen in the window) and I plugged the RF cable in the front of the TV. In between, my satellite radio. Unfortunately if I want to go upstairs and want to listen to this, I get good signal from the radio if I hold my clock radio broadcasting from the satellite radio, but if I put it down or walk away from it, it just goes to static. I really hope that Audiovox makes a PNP4 with a better FM strength.

I enjoy satillite radio and have been a subscriber for over 2 years! I hope this radio lasts longer than the last one which was just 14 months, so warranty had just ended. I had the sportster 4 and used it all day, I take it in my vehicle then remove it and take into work for the day. I also have a dock at home, so it gets some serious use!

I'm now in my 4th year with Sirius. As far as the radio and the daily service, it is absolutely awesome. You will not want to return to regular radio again after a couple days of Sirius. The hardware and product they give you daily is phenomenal.

That being said, dealing with the company itself, specifically over the phone, is an absolute nightmare. The utter incompetence of most of the customer service people is staggering. I'd say the average I.Q. is around 25. Harsh, but it is what it is.

Three of my four years with Sirius, I have been lucky enough where I've had family/friends want to pay for my yearly subscription as a Birthday/Christmas present. The first time a family member called Sirius, paid for the year with his credit card, and we thought it was set. His credit card was double charged, and at the beginning of January when my plan renews, I was also charged. We both called Sirius and the issue was not resolved for more than a week.

The second issue was a similar issue. A family member called Sirius, provided a credit card, and paid for the year. Once again, a few days into January $150+ was withdrawn from my checking account (renewal price). Not happy again, we had to haggle over the phone for a few days to get it rectified.

This brings me to this year. A friend and a family member wanted to pay for my subscription. They both contacted Sirius and asked if there were Gift Cards or Certificates that could be used towards the subscription. Obviously b/c of past issues. Both were told by Sirius operators that the easiest way was to purchase Egift Certificates, which are sent directly to the recipients email with a code to redeem them. That was what they did.

On December 30th I went to redeem them. Problem is they are only good towards Sirius hardware and cannot be used for subscriptions. I called Sirius to take issue. I was disconnected by the first two associates, the third was yawning into the phone, and finally the fourth try I got someone who could help. The associate told me I could use the Egift credits and buy Gift Cards from the Sirius shop and have them sent to me. I stated that my account was set to renew in a few days and this would be a problem. He assured me it wouldn't be, and transferred me to customer care.

At customer care, I spoke with an associate who assured me my account would be frozen, it would go into invoice billing, and I simply had to just wait for the Gift Cards to arrive in the mail. I had a bad feeling but decided to go that route. A week later the Gift Cards arrived.

Before I called Sirius back to redeem them, I checked my checking account. Sure enough once again Sirius charged me already for the yearly renewal. Problem this time, I had just paid a bunch of bills out of my checking and it overdrafted my account. I was furious and called Sirius once again. They admitted fault initially, but then began to change their stance and stated that I never had the Sirius account frozen. Luckily I document everyone I speak to. Sirius even refused initially to refund the overdraft fees from the bank. I finally spoke with a supervisor who agreed to refund the fees and subscription price. To rub extra salt in the wounds, it will take 7-10 days, my checking account is now frozen, and I have no way to use it right now. To top it all off, I still never got an apology from Sirius. So to put it simply, don't ask for your subscription to be paid for as a gift, and avoid dealing with Sirius directly. It is nothing but a hassle that probably will cost you days of problems. This might actually be my last year with them because of this. Good luck if you have to deal with them.

I bought this radio as a replacement for an older, different brand. This model has more features, a bigger, clearer display that offers more info (song title, channel name, artist, the time, etc). It only took a few minutes to install and the antennae works even when it's left inside of my car. I have over 6 different FM frequencies to use in my area so static and distruptions are a thing of the past. I recommend this unit for a first time satellite user or as a replacement radio as it is for me. The only hassle was with Sirius itself-it took over 20 minutes on hold until someone picked up my call to transfer my subscription from my old unit to this new one, but that transfer only took about 10 seconds. I now have 10 of my favorite channels pre-set and the option to change them at any time. Good product overall!!!

Bought this unit to replace my Sportster which I had for 4 years. Installed the mount on the dash of my '07 Honda Civic. Used the aux port rather than the fm transmitter mode which I had used previously. What a difference! Fantastic sound quality, no static whatsoever. Radio itself is ok. This is somewhat petty. But the preset buttons are not really easy to press. Trivial, I realize. But all in all this radio is good for the money. Nice to have Sirius NFL radio for the long commute!
